In their own words

Happy man seeks happy woman for happy life together!

Everyone loves me and you will too, because I'm a nice, funny, smart, cheerful (sometimes silly) guy! I have a lot of Ethiopian friends and I love the food, the music, the culture in general, the language, and the warmth and kindness of the people. I therefore have an exceptionally high degree of confidence that I can be happy forever with a nice Ethiopian lady, and that I can make her happy as well! I'm learning Amharic because I like learning languages, especially with different writing systems, like Russian Cyrillic በጣም አስቸጋሪ አይደለም, Armenian የተለየ እና እንግዳ ዓይነት, Chinese jingyudao አት ሀተሜል (ትኩስ፡ደብዳቤ) ዳት ካም, and Sri Lankan sinhala ለማንበብ በጣም ፈታኝ. But Amharic and abugida is very fun because 1. it's challenging and 2. I have a lot of teachers to coach me and practice with me. And I'm also highly motivated, because I want to be able to recite beautiful love poetry to woo a ቆንጆ ኢትዮጵያዊት ሴት and win her (your?) heart! :)

Favorites
Favorite Foods
Ethiopian! Misr, kik, shiro, dinech, tikil gomen, with lots of injera!!
Interests
Acting
On stage or in a movie, yes, I can appreciate it. But there's way too much of it in interpersonal relationships, unfortunately!
Animals
Yes, I care very much about their welfare, about protecting them (especially endangered or threatened species). I don't eat them (not since 1992), don't use them at all (since 2001), and don't even hurt insects or spiders.
Antiques
If they're in a museum, than yes, cool.
Art
I love art from all cultures, all eras, but Picasso is my favorite.
Astrology
Means nothing to me-- I want to delete this
Astronomy
I don't have a telescope anymore, but I enjoy stargazing. Orion is my favorite constellation!
Barbecues
Never. I don't eat dead animal carcasses, so barbecues and I aren't a good match.
Bars
Never.
Basketball
The most boring thing on earth, and the most annoying thing on earth when kids are outside bouncing balls on pavement-- it sounds like hammering on my wall! I wish I could invent a time machine and go back in time and prevent basketball from being invented.
Biology
One of my favorite branches of science! I especially LOVE ornithology!!
Board Games
If it's with a big group of silly people it can be fun. I also like to play chess with my son.
Business Finance
Bores me to tears.
Camping
I used to do it a lot when I was young. It was always more fun if it was somewhere other people didn't know about.
Card Games
Solitaire online if I'm VERY bored.
Cars
Yes, I like them, especially fast ones. Mine is very fast!
Children
I have two, one grown and one in high school, and I work with kids every day (I'm a teacher). I especially love teaching younger kids (primary grades).
Circus
NO WAY. I hate the way animals are mistreated and abused.
Comedy
British comedy is best (Monty Python, Rowan Atkinson)!
Community Service
Only when I get traffic tickets...
Cooking
I love to cook! I can make most Ethiopian foods that I like (except injera, darn it) and Italian food. I made vegan lasagna last night and it was AMAZING!
Dancing
I like watching it more than doing it.
Dating
Not much. I gave up on American women ten years ago next month, and all the nice Ethiopian women I meet online are 9,000 miles away, so it's been a little slow for me lately, romantically speaking...
Dogs and Cats
Dogs are okay, but I don't really want one. Of course, if I lived somewhere with a really big yard I might change my mind.
Drawing
Yes, I love to draw, even though I'm rusty these days. I took a lot of art classes in college and I actually made money as an illustrator briefly in my 20s, so I can honestly brag that I was a "professional artist."
Electronics
I like stuff for audio recording. In fact, my son and I are building an 1176 audio compressor right now! Look it up-- they're awesome (we're building the Revision A "blue stripe" model)!
Exercise
As much as I can, mostly hiking right now, but I like to run and do various resistance stuff, both body weight (pushups. pullups) and free weights (dumbells).
Food
Well yeah... I'd be dead otherwise, right? But seriously, anything vegan, especially if it's spicy (Indian, Ethiopian, Thai).
Football
Snore...
Gambling
Never.
Gardening
I used to when I had a yard, but I live in an upstairs apartment now.
Guns
When I was young I had guns because I lived out in the country in a very rural area. I have no need for them anymore and prefer not having them around.
Internet
Too much, actually, including this site!
Live Concerts
When I was younger, yes. Most of my favorite musicians are dead now though, so not so much anymore.
Math
I don't enjoy it, but I can do it (won awards in high school as the top advanced math student in the school, earned a record highest semester point total in college, etc). I just don't enjoy most of it, although some is cool (I like to play with the Desmos trigonometry app).
Medicine
Like, what medicine do I take? Or do I like it? Or do I want some? This one is weird.
Movies
Oh yeah, all kinds, from sci fi (original Blade Runner, The Shape of Water) to silly stuff (Shaun of the Dead, Four Lions) to art films (from directors like David Lynch and Jim Jarmusch) to foreign films (Akira Kurosawa samurai films, Woven by Salome Mulugeta).
Opera
Carmen and Fidelio, yes.
Painting
Never really tried it, but I love it when other people are great at it!
Pets
Not anymore (last one died 11 years ago). It's nice not having their hair all over everything!
Philosophy
I would need a lot more space to discuss this.
Photography
I used to really like it, but I don't do it much anymore. I don't even have a good camera these days, though I might get another one when I have time to use it.
Politics
I don't care for it at all-- here in America at least it's all theatre. ALL the politicians are liars and have the same agenda behind the scenes. If you mean what are MY politics, I'm to the left on most (but not all) issues.
Psychology
Yes, as long as it's not Freudian.
Radio
Does that even still exist??
Reading
Oh yes. I majored in English in college because I love reading so much.
Religion
As with philosophy, I would need more space (and they would share some of it).
Rugs
Huh? Is this a serious question? "Rugs"??
Running
Yep. I used to do 6 miles every day until I gave myself an inguinal hernia from lifting weights too aggressively for a man my age and had to take time off. Now I'm (carefully!) working back into it.
School
That's where I work every day! And I would never want to work anywhere else!
Shopping
No, that's for the ladies! I get what I need very quickly and efficiently online, and I never enjoy it (I like saving, not spending).
Singing
Sure, when my voice is feeling okay. I actually used to teach it (elementary school chorus groups).
Sky Diving
Yes! I did it once when I was 20 and it was the funnest thing I had ever done. I'll do it again as soon as I can find someone to go with me (everyone I know is afraid!).
Snowboarding
No, I like my bones unbroken, thanks!
Soccer
Zzzzzz
Stock Market
What market? Is that local, and do they sell vegetables?
Technology
I don't really like it. I used to when I was young, but since then I think it's a combination of it leaving me behind to an extent and it becoming increasingly capable of being used for evil (Facebook has politically destroyed America, for example).
Television
Never. Not for many years (we're talking well over twenty).
Tennis
Ehhh... I support the fact that people keep fit playing it, and I'm happy for them to continue doing it as long as I don't have to watch.
Theater
Yes, sometimes. I especially like it when the actors mess up and have to work through it. I guess I like to see people recover and pick themselves up and not give up.
Traveling
I like sleeping in my own bed!
Video Games
Outgrew those a LONG time ago.
Walking
Yes, as long as it's fast and preferably over rough natural terrain!
Writing
That's what I'm doing right now, isn't it? So I must like it!

Insights
Describe the perfect evening.
Nice dinner outside. Watch the day transition into night, watch the constellations appear and take shape, great, deep, honest conversation with the night's sounds as a soundtrack.
Describe your perfect weekend.
Someplace nice that's also close, like the Pacific coast or the mountains (I live in a valley an hour's drive from both!).
Do you believe in love at first sight?
I definitely believe in believing it, if that makes sense.
How many kids would you like to have?
I already have two, so any more would be a bonus.
How important is someone's physical appearance to you?
There has to be attraction, and appearance is part of it, mainly because it can tell you about someone (like whether they take care of themselves).
If you could have one super power, what would it be and why?
Time travel. I would like to go back in time to when I've made my bad mistakes-- not to fix them, because I've learned from them, but to observe myself making them from a 3rd person perspective, because I think I could learn even more from them that way.
What is the purpose of marriage?
It's a visible symbol of a solemn vow-- to remain loyal to each other for life-- for all the world to see and respect.
What is the most important lesson that you've learned?
Forgiving others is something you do for yourself as much as for them.
What do your friends like about you most?
I'm funny and I'm always willing to help at a moment's notice.
What do your friends tease you about the most?
Nobody teases me-- I have three black belts. Seriously, everyone lkes me. Also, teasing doesn't bother me, so I guess it isn't worth the trouble for them!
What gets on your nerves?
Noise, I guess. And selfish cruelty.
What is the most important thing in a relationship?
Loyalty, which you can't maintain without honesty, so I rate those as equal in importance.
What's the best age to get married?
Whenever it happens, it happens.
What turns you off?
Lies, vanity, anger.
What turns you on?
A sincere smile, pretty eyes, physical fitness, cleanliness, a fun (even silly) personality, openness/honesty, a little rebelliousness.
What do you hope to be doing five years from now?
Being happy! Teaching, learning, making music, cooking good food. Basically the same stuff I'm doing now, but with a wife by my side! :)
